AMC Theatres Social Media Team On The Ball With Popcorn Giveaway!

By October 2, 2013February 25th, 2021Destroying Conventional Wisdom

The government may have shut down, but the movie business is still up and running and at least one theater chain wants to offer a modicum of help.

AMC Theatres wants to extend a hand to those burdened by the lack of progress within our political system by offering a small token…a real SMALL token, of assistance.

Federal employees that are forced to stay home wondering where their next paycheck might be coming from can spend what cash they do have by going to the movies, but at least they won’t have to spring for the popcorn. AMC launched a quick and easy real time marketing campaign on social media.

If a federal workers presents a valid government or military ID at an AMC concession stand, they will receive a free small popcorn. The purchase of a ticket is not necessary to receive the offer.

The offer is good until common sense is restored in Washington D.C., or, more likely, until the shutdown ends or we run out of free popcorn”, AMC Theatres said in a statement.

AMC admits it’s not really a solution to the problem, but hopes that it’ll help the “non-essential” workers in some small way.

“There are hundreds of thousands of federal workers whose lives are being impacted,” said John McDonald, EVP Operations at AMC. “While we can’t do anything to resolve gridlock in Washington D.C., we can provide a few hours of entertainment, and free popcorn, while they wait to get back to work.”

No word yet if Coke or Pepsi want to spring for a free soda!

I’m not sure how this will be looked at on social media. It could make for an interesting discussion for sure!
